24th Meat Safety and Quality Assurance Auditors General Assembly and Technical Sessions

At the recently concluded 24th MSQA (Meat Safety and Quality Assurance) Auditors General Assembly and Technical Sessions held at the scenic Cebu Club Fort Med Resort in Boljoon, Cebu last 24-26 April 2024, Executive Director Sangcal delivered a compelling address, calling for an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in meat safety and quality assurance auditing.

Gathered at the picturesque town of Boljoon, Cebu, NMIS Meat Safety and Quality Assurance auditors from across the country convened to discuss the latest developments and best practices in meat safety and quality assurance auditing. In her keynote speech, Executive Director Sangcal emphasized the paramount importance of upholding the highest standards of food safety practices in meat establishments. She underscored the critical role that auditors play in safeguarding public health and ensuring the safety and quality of meat products consumed by Filipinos. With the dynamic nature of food safety standards and regulatory requirements, Executive Director Sangcal highlighted the need for continuous learning and adaptation among auditors. She stressed the importance of staying abreast of emerging trends, technological advancements, and best practices in meat safety and quality assurance auditing. Executive Director Sangcal commended the dedication and professionalism of NMIS MSQA auditors, recognizing their tireless efforts in conducting thorough inspections and assessments of meat establishments nationwide. She lauded their commitment to upholding regulatory standards and their role in promoting consumer confidence in the safety and quality of meat products. Technical sessions spanning a wide range of topics were also held during the General Assembly. Notable speakers included Dr. Vernadette Sanindad, who delivered practical guidance on auditing meat establishments with Indian Buffalo Meat utilization, and Ms. Cristina Almonte, who gave updates on the Codex for Food Hygiene. Dr. Roie Lee Cataluna gave insights into the National Food Control Systems (NFCS), and Dr. January Nones provided expertise on the FAO Toolbox for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). These sessions gave participants invaluable insights and opportunities for knowledge-sharing. In closing, Executive Director Sangcal reiterated NMIS's steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of meat in the Philippines. She urged everyone to work collaboratively towards achieving excellence in meat safety and quality assurance, thereby upholding public health and consumer trust.
